Surprise presentation at Exe Sailing Club

Last Thursday evening Exe Sailing Club hosted its annual fund raising evening for the RNLI.  The club took the opportunity to mark the forthcoming retirement of the Exmouth lifeboat Coxswain/Mechanic, Tim Mock.

Exe SC commodore Rex Frost invited Tim to become an honorary member of the club and presented him with a framed scroll, a membership card and an engraved whisky glass.  In his response, Mr Mock said he was “delighted to have been made an honorary member of the Exe SC, as the club and the lifeboat station had enjoyed an excellent relationship over his 33 years of service.”

Tim’s wife Melanie was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mary Fagan, Exe SC social chair.

Tim was also presented with a cheque for the RNLI for £664, representing the amount raised by Exe SC members over the past year through various events, including the Champagne Challenge to Brixham in September.  The commodore also handed over the £154 raised by the evening’s prize draw and thanked the prize donors for their generosity.

The event was well attended by club members and by members of the lifeboat crew, both past and present.  Two of the former members of the crew, Ron Lavis and Spud Rowsell, took the opportunity to wear their very distinctive “retired crew member” ties.

Shop volunteers manned a souvenir stall throughout the evening and raised £170.60 in sales of Christmas cards and gifts.
