Exmouth RNLI tasked to drifting vessel

At 7.43pm on Thursday 26th October 2023, H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of Exmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat D-805 George Bearman II following a report of a drifting 10 foot rowing boat close to the Octagon off Exmouth seafront. They were assisted by Exmouth Coastguard Rescue team.

The charity’s lifeboat launched at 7.52pm and immediately sped to the scene to assess the situation, check on whether there were, or may have been, occupants on the boat and if it was a likely hazard to other water users. The crew volunteers located the vessel at that location about a minute later a few metres offshore. There were no occupants on board.

Two of the lifeboat crew manually pulled the boat to the safety of shore and later liaised with the Coastguard Rescue Team. The crew were satisfied that there the vessel had come adrift, that there had been no occupants on board.

Having successfully completed the tasking, the lifeboat crew were stood down by H.M. Coastguard and the lifeboat was then made ready for service a short time later.
