An increase in the number of people enjoying the fine weather by the coast led to the UK Coastguard tasking Crew volunteers five times between Friday 26 and Saturday 27 May.
Crew volunteers launched at 10pm on Friday 26 May to a sighting of a flare, which was later confirmed as a false alarm with good intent. Whilst they were in the river Exe, Crew volunteers went to the aid of a paddle boarder trying to make his way against the tide, but managed to reach the shore without assistance.
Inshore lifeboat George Bearman II launched at 3.32pm on 27 May following a call to the Coastguard from a member of the public. They had seen a yacht listing dramatically on Pole Sands, half a mile south of the lifeboat station. Once on scene in six minutes, Crew volunteers established a tow and took the lone sailor to his mooring in the river Exe. George Bearman II was ready for service again at 4.45pm.
Pagers sounded once again at 6.30pm but the launch was cancelled within six minutes.
These taskings followed a rescue of two jet skiers on Friday lunchtime, which can be found here.
